Comet 17P/Holmes in 2007

Observation of Comet 17P/Holmes

17P/Holmes made outburst on October 24, 2007 from 17 magnitude to 3 magnitude. I observed the comet on October 27 in the full-moon sky. I could locate the comet in the center of Perseus with naked eyes. I made a sketch with my 8-inch reflector. I estimated the brightness as 2.7 magnitude and the diameter was 4'.

I continued the observation till November 18. Summary of the sketches and growth of the actual diameter of the coma are shown below.

- Instrument: 8inch F6 reflector with SP9.7mm Eyepiece
- Position: 3h50.6m, +50deg 19' (from the sketch)
- Easy to see with naked eyes in full-moon sky.
- Brighter than Delta Per (3.0 mag.), same brightness as Delta Cas (2.7 mag.)
- Yellowish in 7x50 binoculars.
